Medicare is the government-run health insurance program for people age 65 and older or for people with disabilities. The Medicare Annual Election Period (AEP) is the time to sign up for or make changes to your Medicare coverage. This year’s Annual Election Period begins October 15 and ends December 7th. Before 2011, Medicare’s open enrollment would start November 15th and close at the end of December. Since 2011, Medicare’s open enrollment opens on October 15th and will close after December 7th. Medicare enrollment dates were changed to allow enough time to process beneficiaries’ plan choices before taking effect, at the start of the New Year.

Make sure you don’t miss your chance to enroll in Medicare 2020. Here are two key dates you should know:

October 15th:December 7th:
First day to join or change your 2020 Medicare coverage.Last day to join or change a medicare coverage starting January.
