CareOregon presents a program that offers the possibility of equipping your home with an air conditioning unit. By utilizing their Health Related Services, your healthcare provider can make a funding request for an AC unit to address specific chronic conditions.
Funding Assistance for Air Conditioners for Individuals with Chronic Conditions

Extreme heat can pose significant risks, especially for individuals with chronic medical conditions. Traditional methods of preventing heat-related illnesses may not provide sufficient protection for these individuals, and accessing cooling centers may not always be feasible.
CareOregon has implemented a program aimed at assisting eligible members with chronic conditions, who are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses, in acquiring an air conditioning unit for their homes. Through their Health Related Services, funding can be requested to obtain a home air conditioner.
Which conditions are eligible?
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), individuals with certain conditions are at the highest risk of heat-related illnesses. These conditions include:
Heart disease
Mental illness
Respiratory illness
Obesity
Please note that these conditions are not an exhaustive list, and it is important to consult with your healthcare provider to determine if your specific condition qualifies you for a free air conditioner.
How can I request funding?
To request funding, your healthcare provider needs to submit a request on your behalf. They will present your unique situation and submit the funding request to CareOregon using the HRSF Flexible Services Funding Request form.
Detailed instructions on how your provider can complete this form can be found in the HRSF Request Form instructions. It is crucial to provide your provider with accurate information to facilitate the completion of the form.
How long does it take to receive the air conditioner?
After your provider submits the funding request, it may take up to 14 business days for a decision to be made. You will receive a notification letter from CareOregon informing you of their decision.
If your request is approved, the delivery of the air conditioning unit will depend on the availability and shipping times provided by the manufacturer. The entire process, from request submission to delivery, can take up to 6 weeks. Therefore, it is advisable to consult with your provider as early as possible to prepare for the hot weather months. We recommend submitting your request in the spring, prior to the onset of hot weather.
What information does my provider need from me?
To ensure the best and most efficient outcome, it is important to provide your provider with the following information:
Type of air conditioning unit needed (specify whether a window unit or portable unit is required)
Approximate size of the space you intend to cool
Delivery address
Your provider will fill in the remaining information on the form.
Will the unit be installed for me?
Please note that installation of the air conditioning unit is not included in this request. If you require assistance with installation, your provider will need to submit a separate funding request specifying the preferred installation vendor. It is important to be aware that the chosen installation vendor is not guaranteed. CareOregon reserves the right to select an alternative vendor if deemed more appropriate or available.
